Missouri fact file dated October 1, 2026.
A prescription follows an assessment
The Missouri rules below leave a first online prescription unsettled. Ask the doctor to explain how your visit meets both rules.
Read Missouri’s conditions together
A form can count, with conditions
Missouri changed its rule for online forms on August 28, 2026.
Read the changed Missouri questionnaire provision
To count, a form must be reviewed by the treating health professional. It must give as much information as an in-person evaluation.
The person reviewing the form needs an employer or a contract with a business. That business must be licensed for providing health care in Missouri.
The law leaves the type of business licence unnamed, so this guide cannot tell you which document would satisfy that part of the rule.
Ask the service to name that business and explain which licence it relies on. Ask who reads the form and how that person follows up on missing or unclear answers.
How a first online prescription fits is still unclear
Missouri lets a doctor-patient relationship begin through telehealth if an in-person visit is not needed to meet the care standard.
Read the route for establishing a care relationship
Another Missouri rule says that a prescription based only on a remote assessment needs a relationship with the doctor that already exists and is continuing.
Read the separate prescribing provision
As of October 1, 2026, the Missouri laws and medical-board information reviewed for this guide did not explain how these rules fit together.
The unresolved point is whether a newly started online relationship meets the rule that requires an existing one. This guide cannot settle whether your first prescription can be issued online or whether you need an earlier visit.
Ask the doctor to explain how your visit meets both rules before you pay. A payment screen cannot answer that question.
Ask what follows the form
After a visit using an online or phone form, Missouri requires a written report to the health professional who usually cares for you. It must be sent within fourteen days if you provide that person’s details.
Check Missouri’s report requirement
Ask how to receive your own visit record and how to raise a new question after reading it.
